How to clean up your temp files from your %temp% folder in Windows

If PowerPoint is experiencing a delay when typing while multiple presentations are open, here are some tips

  1. A large number of files in the TEMP folder can significantly slow down PowerPoint. To clean out the TEMP folder:
    1. Close PowerPoint and all other programs
    2. In the Open box, type %temp%
    3. Select the excess .tmp files, and then press DELETE
  2. A simple way to ensure your machine runs well is to simply restart it every day - shutdown overnight and restart in the morning. This will also reduce the cached memory load
  3. Check the Task Manager for what is using the RAM. If you open multiple Browser windows (Chrome, Edge, or others) note that each tab is an instance of the Browser. If you hover over a tab in Chrome for instance it will show you the amount of memory it consumes (this tab for instances is using 370MB of RAM!)
