How to use the conversion tools

There are three main scenarios for using the empower® conversion tool. It includes options to ensure you choose the right option for the task:

• Rebrand projects: converting from one template to a completely different one.
• Template updates: opening an older file and moving it to the latest template version.
• Template cleanup: removing duplicate layouts, extra masters, and other template clutter.

The main objective is to make the file match the desired template more cleanly and efficiently.

Process

1. Open your file

2. Click on the conversion tool and select the destination template

3. You can then select the required depth of conversion, as the tool offers different depths of conversion depending on how much change you want.

• • If you want a light touch, open the cog/settings option, turn off the 'Convert Slides' option. Then run the conversion by clicking Presentation.

    • This is useful when you want minimal disruption and just want template clean up or version updating.
  • If you want a fuller conversion, leave the 'Convert Slides' option ticked on and continue into Presentation to access more options.
  • At this point, you will see three conversion levels:
    • Basic: applies the new template and cleans layouts by removing extra or unwanted layouts but does not reset placeholders.
    • Medium: applies the new template and cleans layouts by removing extra or unwanted layouts and does reset placeholders.
    • Full: applies the template, cleans layouts, resizes, and runs design check.
  • You can also toggle sub-options depending on what you need.

Rebrand conversions can be complex because there are many moving parts. For best results, contact our Customer Services team, so we can:

• Review the old and new templates together

• Program custom mapping for slides and elements

• Build a customised and more robust conversion process

Template design also matters, as it can impact:

• Colour palette structure and behaviour

• Layout structure

• Layout naming conventions.

NOTE: Presentation slide size can impact conversion results if there is a mismatch between the slide sizes, e.g. old template is set to custom, new template is set to widescreen and it can often yield better results if you first reset the slide size to be the same between you run the conversion.  

The better the new template is built, the easier the conversion will be. For rebrand projects, it is worth discussing your templates and requirements in advance with our Customer Services team so the conversion process can be made as reliable, robust and effective as possible. After the conversion has run:

• Review the slides and reapply and reset layouts where necessary 

• Click through the slides to confirm the conversion worked as expected and make any adjustments as required.
